Big Boy One Fun!

Little Baby is one! Uh, in fact he's been one for a couple of weeks, but I'm just now getting to it. His birthday is on the 14th, but of course Hubby had army that weekend, so we didn't celebrate until the next weekend. No biggie, Little Baby didn't know. So his actual birthday came and went without too much of a fuss, and I took the weekend on the road and visited my parents with the kids. My mom made matching outfits for the kids, and I felt LB's birthday needed to be documented in some fashion, so we spent the morning at a portrait studio where I managed to spend enough money to get all the photos on a cd. Plus about a jillion printed. I really don't need all of these, so if one happens to show up in your mailbox, you know why. After nap we had playtime outside where LB got his first taste of cake, baked in an ice cream cone. He loved it!

Now on to his celebration. We just had mostly family over to the house for burgers and 'dogs and watched the bigger kids run wild in the yard. It was fun, and it didn't rain until after everyone left. If you keep up with me, you know about my feelings regarding birthday cake, and this one proved to be no different. I used a vintage wilton pan (circa the early 1980s) with a "happy birthday" insert. Recently my mom decided it was time I "inherit" her cake decorating supplies (this should give you a hint as to why I'm so fanatic about decorating birthday cakes...I've seen the photos to prove that the cake supplies aren't all I "inherited"!), and this particular pan was part of it. Complete with instructions. Anywho, enjoy the photos. Maybe someday I'll get fancy enough to make a photo slide show or something, but I doubt it :)

Kiss

I was putting Baby to bed tonight and she said, "Are you ready for this kiss?" and took her tongue and went round and round her lips a few times and paused, waiting for my answer. I laughed and said, "I don't think so!" Luckily she aimed for my arm instead of my face.

I don't usually put Baby to bed...Hubby does. But I got the pleasure tonight since he's on the road. And in case you're wondering...I did actually go back to sleep for awhile the other night, and Baby and I had a nice day together.

Some day soon I'll get pics/video up of Little Baby's birthday (YES, birthday!) and of Baby's recital.

Can't sleep

Like every other woman in the world. Can't sleep. And then I get all grouchy with my kids the next day and it makes me even more grouchy that I'm grouchy because I'm tired. I've got two problems that happen nearly every night. Either I wake up around 5ish and can't go back to sleep, or Hubby gets up around 5ish to go to work and I can't go back to sleep. Either way, that's too early for me, unless I get myself to bed by about 8, and we all know that isn't gonna happen. So dear Hubby suggested I write next time I couldn't go back to sleep, and here I sit. What's on my mind you ask?

We made an offer on a house. We were counter offered. We made a counter. It's a fixer upper. We don't have an offer on our house. How is this gonna work? We're gonna run outta cash, and that's a problem. Or maybe we won't run outta cash, but I still get to lose sleep worrying about it.

Baby doesn't have a best friend. I've been praying for one for her for over a year. She needs a little girlfriend.

And I'm tired. I wake up, can't go back to sleep, and I start worrying about how tired I'm gonna be the next day.

Who knows how to shut their brain down?! Please share!

Am I gonna hear Little Baby in the morning? Let's say I do go back to sleep now. And then again after Hubby leaves at 6. Am I gonna hear Little Baby and get up? I don't set an alarm (I don't usually need one). And we've got a big day ahead of us. Little Baby has his last day of Mother's Day Out today, so Baby and I are gonna have a fun day together. I'm thinking a movie, the mall, and maybe a new Iphone for Momma (don't GET me started on how angry I am with my phone right now!!).

And Baby has her ballet recital this evening. She's gotta be there at 5:20. The show starts at 6. Her class is number 17, so that's gonna put her on stage at about 7. Are there gonna be snacks back stage? And who is watching her? I had to fill out some dumb form with a copy of my drivers license that I'm the only one dropping her off and picking her up, but no one was in charge back there, and no one asked me at the dress rehearsal if I was the one signed up to pick up/drop off. And what about Little Baby? I'm sure he is gonna love sitting in my lap for an hour plus when he would rather be eating dinner. He had graham crackers for dinner last night because I was trying to keep him quiet during the rehearsal. I gave him dinner when we got home, but he just threw it on the floor for the dog. And that bothers me.

What else is bothering me. Mmmm...that might be it. Sometimes I try to think of odd patterns to get myself back to sleep. Like I'll just think of the color gray. Or do you remember back when there used to be "snow" on TVs? Sometimes I'll think of that. But nothing helps. Momma is tired, so tired.

Favorite Things

So Baby actually had a bit of a tough time this morning. Which isn't really that unusual. So she's being her normal self and disobeying so Momma and Baby had some lesson/consequence time. After consequence time, Baby almost ALWAYS wants extra snuggle time. I guess that's her way of processing? Anywho, we are in her bed together, and she says she wants to talk. Which talking in and of itself isn't that odd for her (can NOT get her to shut it!), but she isn't really that into having conversations, like answering questions. But this morning she was into it. So I asked her what her favorite things were and she said:

-playing
-drinking chocolate milk
-eating special treats
-riding her bike

and a whole bunch more cute things that I promised myself I would remember so that I could write them down. But it turns out this happened hours ago, and there is just no possible way I can remember :( But I hope I do remember our extra snuggle time.

Our Fridays

For nearly a year we've had Friday Pizza Movie Night. Right around the time Little Baby was born, I think I just needed it to be OK to totally veg and zone out (like I wasn't already doing it, I just needed everyone else to do it with me) in front of the TV. And a night off from the kitchen. Thus began Friday Pizza Movie Night, which lately has actually been renamed Friday Family Fun Night, because we've sorta had a lot going on. But anyway. Tonight we watched Where the Red Fern Grows, and the whole family (well, excluding Little Baby) had tears rolling down our faces. What a wholesome and sad and wonderful movie. I almost want another dog!

After putting Little Baby to bed for the night, the rest of the family headed out to the garage, where I held a voltage meter while Hubby tried to sort out a voltage regulator piece on the tractor he's refurbishing. I had to chuckle. And if you're still with me, you're probably quite confused. Yes, we do live in a large metropolitan area. I did just write foreign words like "voltage regulator", and you read right...refurbishing a tractor. 1978 Ford, I believe. Which has been in pieces in our garage for the last 5 years. I don't care, my car fits in the garage, and Hubby works on that instead of going out with the boys and watching sports. Works for me! And I don't mind to hold a meter now and again either. Almost so wholesome I wanna gag, but I wouldn't have it any other way :) Now I better go chase down Baby (who is somewhere between the garage and back yard getting all sorts of filthy) and get her in bed!
