Back Bloggin'

Well, well, well...you may say I've been far from a regular poster these days. It's not that I don't think in blog titles, it's just that I've been far too overwhelmed to actually sit down and blog. Which is probably when I need to do it most (for my own self's sake). And I want to add pictures, but that would mean I have to download them and then upload them. So, a few blog titles that have been rattling 'round my head (sans photos):

Change 'O Plans (June 30)

So, my family has been planning for months (literally) a trip to the mountains in New Mexico with another family. 4 adults and 4 kids, 2 cars, and a 2 day drive = 1 week to beat the heat of TX. Driving that far takes A LOT of planning. Being away for that long takes A LOT of planning. That's why the plan has been in the works for so long. Oh, and the reason for the trip? The guys of the group want to climb a mountain. And they thought the gals of the group would be more willing to "allow" the adventure if they billed it as a "family vacation". I'd say we're no suckers, but we went a long with it anyway. I was up for it...thought it would be fun. Kinda our first real family vacation. And certainly the first (if only) driving vacation. I'm not really much for driving vacays. Give me a jet plane any day. But I was oddly looking forward to that time in the car with Hubby. And luckily Target had a sale on dual DVD players just days before our targeted day of departure. So, as I've mentioned...we've spent quite a bit of time planning and preparing. Then, New Mexico caught on fire.

Literally. The mountain the guys wanted to climb (and had made so many preparations for), closed THE DAY WE WERE SUPPOSED TO LEAVE because of all the wild fires. I gotta say, the guys threw a bit of a pity party (I believe the phrase "there isn't any reason to go now" was used a bunch...to which I always responded, "I wasn't going to climb a mountain, and I was gonna have fun."). But, we did all decide maybe it wouldn't be worth the trip. So, we cancelled. Boo. We did come up with a substitute vacation, but since it was a holiday weekend, most everything was booked. So instead my family got to celebrate my grandfathers 95th birthday (I was really sad we were gonna have to miss that, so in that regard, I'm glad we canceled our trip). And then we drove out to meet our friends at their lake house for a couple of days. It was nice, just not quite the experience we had thought we'd have. Ah. Here's to flexibility. Of which I actually have very little!

What in the Heck Did We Just Do? (July 11)

What were we thinking?! We bought a house today! Not that we're so surprised by this fact, we've been working towards this for the past 6 weeks. Seriously. We made an offer nearly 2 months ago, and we're using a VA loan, so the process has been extra arduous. And we're buying a...mmmm...shall we say "fixer upper" to put it nicely. Not something we were looking to do, but it just seemed like the right thing for us. Oh, and did I mention that we haven't sold our other house? So now I own 2 homes! So posh. My weekday home, and my weekend home. I always kinda wanted to own a vacation home, I just never thought they would be 7 miles a part.
So now, we keep rattling around our (current) home being overwhelmed and not actually doing anything that is required to update our (new) home. Here's what we wanna do:

-remove popcorn ceiling
-paint entire house
-install new flooring in nearly the entire house
-update 3 bathrooms
-replace the kitchen

and countless other projects. Yikes. This is bothering me just writing it. I think I need to go eat some ice cream and watch TV to avoid actually doing anything I should be doing.

On another note, I made a cranberry bbq sauce for ribs that we grilled tonight, and they were really yummy.
