Musings

So I thought earlier in this evening that I wanted to blog about a few things, then I sat down to do it and I can't remember what I was going to blog about. It had something to do with kids. I know that's a surprise. Ah, I think I remember one thing. Sadie (looks like I'm giving up that whole Baby/Little Baby thing that I started way back when I was ubered out about posting personal info on the world wide web, but since I'm pretty sure my mom is the only one reading I'm not as freaked out about that) has asked a few questions recently about either before she was born or when she was a baby. The most recent one was what was the first name I thought about giving her. I told her Penny, short for Pencil Sharpener, which is true (obviously a joke, but yes, we referred to her as Penny for quite awhile). But I remember there was another name I really wanted to give her, but Mike didn't like it. I knew it started with an A, but couldn't remember the actual name! So to the Internet for "baby girl A names" to be reminded that I wanted to name her Amelia Mae. I still think it's cute. So for the rest of the evening she had me call her Amelia Mae, and she called me Ma. I think she got the better deal. There were a few things I wanted to write about Joe, too, but at the end of the day mostly what comes to mind is, "Well, this day was a fail with him. Good thing there is tomorrow." I'm having a real hard time with him and his spastic 2 year old ways. Can't seem to get him to do much of anything I want him to do. This evening was nice out, and I so wanted to go for an after dinner walk, but luckily I had a flash of reality and didn't go. I know it would end up with me running down the sidewalk sweating while Joe runs away into the street, ultimately trips on his fast feet and totally bite it while I have to fume while carrying him home uphill while he cries and poor sweet Sadie gets the short end of the stick while I yell at her to hurry up and turn around we have to go home because this walk has turned into a beating. Ah, such the joys of motherhood...

My big birthday girl

6 years! How does it happen? I suppose parents often think that. I wonder if you ever stop remembering the day your children are born, especially on birthdays. I can remember the excitement, anticipation, euphoria. Ah, it is SO very exciting to have a baby! And I'm your quintessential pregnant momma with water breaking in the middle of the night just to add to the excitement. I was telling Sadie last night the story of when she was born. I'm not sure I've ever shared much with her, but since she's now a big 6 year old, I reminisced a bit with her as we looked through a photo album of her first days. There is an intersection in town that I pass through often, and seldom do I go through it without remembering our trip to the hospital when Sadie was on the way. Hubs was timing contractions (just for fun, I guess, bc there was NO question on if I was in labor), and he missed the turn. So he did this crazy u-turnish move that makes me chuckle whenever I pass through that intersection. Needless to say we made it in plenty of time. I took a cute photo this morning that I'll try to post later. Plus one of the cake, of course. Even though we are having a low key celebration, you better believe I'm making the cake! We are taking Sadie's favorite cousin to the zoo with us on Saturday, and shhh...the surprise is that cousin is spending the night. Whoa, not sure if I know what we're getting into with sleepovers! But I know they will both have a blast. I love you, my dear lovey! Thanks for making me a mommy.

The Six Pack

So, I got this group of ladies who are my girls. I mean, my full out besties. When I try to explain The Six Pack to anyone, I just walk away thinking, "they don't get it." The Six Pack formed about 14 years ago (Did I just write FOURTEEN?). Oh my word I'm starting to feel old. Anyway, I digress. This lovely group of ladies formed from our sorority and we've just stuck together. We're all in TX, but we're from a few locations, so we don't get together too often. Lately it's been about 2 or maybe even 3 times a year, which is pretty good when I think about it. One tradition we started while still in college was to do a Christmas party and gift exchange. We just celebrated our 13th party. Yeah, I know it's January. We moved it to January a few years back because with all our families and other obligations, December just got a little tough to get us all 6 together. So we celebrated yesterday, and as my last friend left the house this morning I said, "I wish it was yesterday." Grown up friends are so much harder to make than college ones. And sometimes I just crave the bond I have with these ladies I've known for so long but seldom get to see. We had great big fun yesterday (marred with a little disappointment since one of us couldn't make it at the last moment). This year we had our fellas in tow and we met up at my place mid afternoon. The gals had a bit of shopping before we all headed out to this new grown up bowling alley. Followed by dinner out and then dessert and games back at the house. 2 couples spent the night and the others met us in the morning for breakfast at my house. I sorta think it's funny how we continue to have slumber parties! But there is nothing I wouldn't do for any of the girls, and I feel so fortunate to be a part of a group like this. Perhaps everyone has a solid group of friends...I hope they do. But I'm certain no one else has a 6 Pack like mine! I guess we'll have to wait for the next wedding/baby shower before we all get together again, but in the meantime, I think we're all mentally planning that "big birthday" celebratory trip!

Hello Again

It's nice to see you again. I guess you could say it's been awhile, huh? I dunno why I haven't written. I guess maybe because it's sorta because I don't feel like I have much to write about, but then again, my posts aren't really about much. Or maybe I feel like it's been so long that no one is reading anyway (except my mom!). And when I started this blog it was really some sort of public letter to Hubby while he was in Iraq, and now he's here and pretty much gets the update in real time. Ah, but it's a new year, so maybe I'll try writing again. I guess I'll start with Christmas. We had a nice one. It snowed! Such fun. The children are adorable, we are healthy, and I can't ask for more. Enjoy some photos while I try to get re-inspired!
