Cold Feet

For someone who claims not to be sentimental, I sure am carrying on these days!

Back in the fall Hubby and I decided for various boring reasons that it would be a good time to start thinking about moving. So we did some poking around and found a neighborhood we really liked. Then we found a house. That we really really liked. A lot. And even though we weren't quite ready, we busted it to get our home market ready and make an offer. Ah, but we didn't move fast enough, and the house went under contract.

That was about 2 or 3 months ago, and I feel like we've been moving ever since! We keep clearing out clutter, reorganizing, looking at houses, and even packing things. Now I feel like our home isn't much of a home anymore but rather a house. And we don't even have a for sale sign in our yard...yet. Our realtor is scheduled to take photos this week, and then we'll look over the paperwork, and then I suppose we will move forward with listing our home. This move that I'm already sick of...well...now I'm suddenly not so sure!

This is the first home we bought together. The home that gave me shelter while Hubby was deployed. The home our babies came home to. We like our neighbors. We are comfortable here. There are many many reasons to love this place. And just as many to move on...

Ah, well. Such is life, I suppose!

Why is it so hard?

Even almost painful? For a not so very nostalgic person, I sure am having a hard time letting go of baby clothes. As you probably know, babies grow outta things very quickly, so it doesn't take long before the closet gets overrun with outgrown clothing. And I like to just throw it on a pile at the bottom of the closet. It works very well for me. But then ever so often I notice I'm having a hard time closing the door, and I realize it's because the pile has grown out of control. I usually like to pretend that we will have more kids and I carefully fold items to put into the attic for storage. But this time...well, this time. This time I sorta faced reality. And I bagged them up to give them away. Sniff. I'm pretty sure we are finished with adding on to our family. There were a few items I just couldn't let go of, though. Like that silly old tiny white cotton shirt they put on the babies in the hospital. I have both of them. And they are probably 2 of the very most useless items of clothing. And they aren't even cute! But I just can't seem to get rid of them...yet. I mean, it's not like they are taking up much space. Now I have a mess of clothing on the floor to get to, and I'm a mess myself. Maybe I'll just leave that pile there for awhile and wallow in my memories over one more cup of coffee. Here's to all those mothering moments that take you by surprise!
